Sometimes Dog Training is Hard, Y'all

When things get hard, take a step back and enjoy something easy together.

When things get hard, take a step back and enjoy something easy together.

Training isn’t always win after victorious win.

Sometimes your dog has BIG FEELINGS about a bicyclist and you don't have the energy or patience to help him cope.

Sometimes your dog is still riding the wave of tension from the night before and has a meltdown about the workman walking down the street.

Sometimes your bait bag falls over and treats tumble out.

Sometimes you visit a new park and your dog has meltdown after meltdown after meltdown as the staff approach your car to explain you're going the wrong way.

Sometimes you have a cry.

And then sometimes you get the gift of a cool morning and a peaceful park where your dog reminds you that he does have skills. He just needs you to help him.

If you're struggling, your dog probably is too.

Step back. Do something fun and easy together. Take a rest day. Let him work a long-lasting chew and take an extra nap. The goals will still be there tomorrow and the team will be better equipped to succeed.
